India has constantly violated the ceasefire at the Line of Control since July 2015. The latest cross-border shelling by the Indian army in Azad Jammu and Kashmir killed one woman wounded eight others. Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit stated that India has violated the ceasefire about 70 times since last month.

The shelling has also damaged several village houses, as well as killing and wounding livestock. Earlier in August, a woman was shot in the stomach by the Indian forces. She was rushed to the hospital but eventually succumbed to her injuries.

New Delhi claims six people, including a woman, were killed in recent firing by Pakistani forces in the Poonch sector but Pakistan denies any unprovoked firing.

ISPR said that the Pakistan Army responded to the firing and shelling by the Indian forces in a befitting manner. Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world observed India’s independence day as a Black Day to convey the message to the world that India has illegally occupied their homeland.

Pakistan Army had also lodged a strong protest with the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) over unprovoked firing by Indian troops. According to officials this firing has been continuing for the past many weeks

The national security advisors of the two countries are scheduled to meet in the Indian capital from August 23 to discuss trivial matter and hopefully put an end to these firings.
